Acid Stain Concrete Options

There are many options when it comes to acid staining concrete. First of all, you must pick a color, this may be quite challenging as acid stain is not as predictable as regular house paint. Most acid stain color charts show how the stain looked on the manufacturers samples when the pictures where taken, this may be dramatically different on someone else's concrete. Acid stain is a reactive material and does not have pigments so there is a certain element of uncertainty, but these qualities are what gives acid stained floors their unique appearance and pleasant earthtone look.

Once a color is chosen, making a sample with that color is highly recommended, have the contractor do samples inside a closet, under cabinets or carpeted areas so you can see how the color will look on your own concrete, this is important because every concrete reacts different to the same acid stain.

Next up is the design, most stain concrete jobs have only one color, because acid stain is not even and gives that marble-like variegated look, one color may just be enough. You can also experiment with different color schemes, borders, designs, engraving and patterns suck as diamond, tile or block scored into the concrete.

The next step it to choose the right sealer for you application, is it inside? outside? residential? commercial? There are many types of sealers out there for just about every application. Have the contractor explain your choices, ask what he recommends and why, have him seal your samples and see if you like the results.
